Description
Diazepam is a benzodiazepine that is widely used orally as an anxiolytic agent and muscle relaxant. Intravenous forms of diazepam are used for acute severe agitation, as a premedication for anesthesia, as a sedative for minor surgery or invasive procedures, and for treatment of status epilepticus or severe recurrent seizures. Diazepam therapy has not been associated with serum aminotransferase elevations, and clinically apparent liver injury from diazepam has been reported but is exceedingly rare.
